Maratos dedicated off-road motorcycles

Posted on April 7th, 2007 in Uncategorized by admin

The Greek Maratos Brothers built a motorcycle of their own development in Thessaloniki in the 1920s. It is not known whether there was any intent of producing the motorcycle, but the Brothers (expert motorcycle engineers), among other similar activities, were involved since 1945 in a more “industrial” process, transforming existing motorcycles into light trucks utilizing automobile parts (producing a type of vehicle then popular in Greece).

No Good (Start the Dance) start

Posted on April 7th, 2007 in Uncategorized by admin

No Good (Start the Dance)” was the eighth single released by the British electronica/rave act The Prodigy on 16 May 1994. It was the second single from the album Music For the Jilted Generation. The single became their first big UK hit, peaking at number four.

The original sample “You’re no good for me, I don’t need nobody” is by Kelly Charles and comes from the single “You’re No Good For Me” (1987, London Records LONX153). Liam Howlett had doubts whether to use the sample because he thought it was too pop for his taste.

It is often considered to be one of the biggest dance hits in electronica history, and has been featured on many dance album compilations.

The video was directed by Walter Stern and took place in an underground warehouse, which featured people dancing to the song whilst the band members prowl around.

The Australian release of the single is sometimes referred to as the Australian Dance Tour - EP, since it was only released in Australia around the time of The Prodigy’s tour there.

Posted on April 5th, 2007 in Uncategorized by admin

The 1950s are noted in United States history as a time of both compliance and conformity and also, to a lesser extent, of rebellion. Major U.S. events during the decade included:

  • The Korean War (1950-1953);
  • The Second World War hero and retired Army Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower as President in 1952 and his subsequent re-election in 1956;
  • The Red Scare and anti-Communist concerns of the McCarthy era;
  • The U.S. reaction to the 1957 launch by the Soviet Union of the Sputnik satellite, a major milepost of the Cold War.

Compliance and attempts at social perfection were hallmarks of the 1950s domestic scene, where the two-parent families in which the father worked in industry and the mother remained home as a homemaker were idealized in television programs such as The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. Social undercurrents subverting this view were seen in movements such as beat poetry, rock and roll music, and in motion pictures such as Rebel Without a Cause, starring 1950s icon James Dean. In fact, Dean and rock star Elvis Presley are almost universally seen as 1950s icons, as is the sex symbol motion picture actress Marilyn Monroe. Television became almost universally available in the United States by the end of the decade, and its social effects have been debated from then until now. During this time, African-Americans were subject to racial segregation and harsh racism even as the Civil Rights Movement began to gain momentum after the middle of the decade.

One of the most influential and most highly critically-acclaimed of the many books about the era is The Fifties by journalist and author David Halberstam.

Many Americans are nostalgic for the Fifties, as it brings about memories of diners, racial homogeneity (both good and bad), Frank Sinatra and most importantly a period of prosperity and optimism.Many people remember these period is remembered as a relatively puritanic and thrifty one, since the stress was more on investments for the future than current consumerism. These economic character was also expressed by a positive payments balance.

Bootman boot

Posted on April 4th, 2007 in Uncategorized by admin

bootman is the BeOS boot loader on x86 systems. It resides solely in the master boot record and does not require installing BeOS, although it must be installed from BeOS.

It is filesystem-agnostic, and boots an operating system as if it were being booted directly from the hardware. As such, it can boot virtually any operating system. It can also chainload GRUB, LILO and NTLDR. However, being independent of an OS prevents it being able to boot any disks which are not accessible via BIOS I/O routines (e.g. int 13), with the exception of BeOS disk-in-a-file images on FAT32, NTFS or ext2 file systems.

bootman appeared in BeOS R4.0, replacing LILO, which was used in R3.x. Installing, configuring and uninstalling can be done solely by a graphical application, also called bootman. This can also create a MBR restoration floppy disk without modifying the current MBR.

Production Bike Racing motorcycle

Posted on April 2nd, 2007 in Uncategorized by admin

Production Bike Racing is a form of Motorcycle sport that involves racing motorcycles virtually unmodified from those that can be bought in shops and then ridden on public highways.

The most common subcategory is the 250 cc production bike class, in which “race-replica” motorcycles that superficially resemble Grand Prix machines but have engines capable of meeting legal and reliability requirements for street use, have their road equipment ripped off and are raced.

Because each bike offers virtually identical performance, and because they are relatively cheap to buy and race, it is a popular introductory racing category, particularly in Australia.
