Thionin, also known as thionin acetate or Lauth’s violet, is a strongly staining metachromatic dye that is widely used for biological staining. Stainsfile entry:[1] Thionin can also be used in place of Schiff reagent in quantitative Feulgen staining of DNA. It can also be used to mediate electron transfer in microbial fuel cells.

Thionins can also refer to a family of peptides found solely in higher plants. Typically, a thionin consists of 45-48 amino acid residues. 6-8 of these are cysteine forming 3-4 disulfide bonds. Some thionins have cytotoxic activity and they are therefore interesting in the development of new drugs against cancer with novel action mechanisms. Florack DE,Stiekema WJ., Thionins: properties, possible biological roles and mechanisms of action., Plant Mol Biol. 1994 Oct;26(1):25-37. [2]
As of yet, no thionin has ever been developed into an anti-cancer drug.

etnies is an American footwear brand based in Lake Forest, California and owned by Sole Technology, Inc. with roots deeply embedded in skateboarding. etnies is primarily a maker of footwear designed for skateboarding, but in more recent years etnies has also created shoes and clothing ostensibly for snowboarders, BMX and motocross riders as well as surfers.

Started in France in 1986, the brand’s original name was Etnics, derived from the word “ethnic”, a nod to the skateboarding sub-culture. It was later renamed etnies due to legal issues. In 1989, Pierre André took charge of the company, making it the first skateboard shoe company owned by a professional skateboarder.

etnies is considered to be the most accessible of Sole Technology’s brands. While its other brands, éS Footwear and Emerica, focus more narrowly on skateboarding shoes, etnies has a broader focus, designing shoes for toddlers, as well as “etnies Girl”, a line for girls and women. [1]

etnies sponsors many professional action sports athletes in sports such as skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, BMX, and motocross. Some athletes it sponsors are: Arto Saari, Rune Glifberg, Jason Dill, Ryan Sheckler, Ali Boulala, Ronnie Creager, Kyle Leeper, Elissa Steamer, Lauren Perkins, Chris Malloy, Jamie Bestwickand , William Torres

Second dealing pushing a

Posted on March 13th, 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

Second dealing is a method of manipulating a deck of cards, during a card game, by way of dealing the second, rather than the top, card of the deck, for the purpose of cheating.

A card cheat who specializes in manipulating playing cards is called a card mechanic; a card mechanic who specializes in second dealing is called a “second dealer”, a “two dealer”, or a “number two man.”

Second dealing is only useful when the cheat knows the value of the top card of the deck. Once the value of the top card is known the cheat may resort to second dealing in order to avoid dealing a good card to an opponent, or to avoid dealing a bad card to himself (or to a secret accomplice).

In order to secretly gain knowledge of the value of the top card, second dealing is always used in conjunction with other cheating methods. One of the easiest, and most common methods of gaining knowledge of the top card is to employ the use of marked cards. When marked cards are not in use the cheat can still gain knowledge of the top card by means of peeking, flashing (to an accomplice; and receiving signals), or by employing the use of various mechanical devices that enable the cheat to see the value of the top card of the deck.

Second dealing is generally done by dealing the cards from the hand. While holding the deck in the hand, the dealer will either push the top card to the side, and strike the second card instead (this method is known as the strike second deal), or by pushing two top cards as one, in almost perfect alignment, and pealing off the second card while pushing the top card back flush with the deck (this method is called the pushoff second deal). Both methods have some advantages and disadvantages, depending on the situation.

Second dealing can also be done when the cards are dealt from a dealing shoe, such as in many casino games. In this case the dealer will push the top card upwards and strike the partially-exposed second card. Although this method is usually employed with the use of a gaffed dealing shoe, an expert card mechanic can do it with a regular dealing shoe as well.

The practice of using a “burn card” developed to help prevent this method of cheating. When burn cards are used, the top card is always discarded and the second one dealt. This is intended to prevent the dealer from gaining information about the next card to be dealt, since the second card is concealed by the top.

Inverse polymerase chain reaction internal

Posted on March 10th, 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

Inverse polymerase chain reaction is a variant of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) when only one internal sequence is known. This is especially useful in identifying flanking sequences to various genomic inserts. Like other polymerase chain reaction processes, inverse polymerase chain reaction is used to amplify DNA samples, via the temperature-mediated enzyme DNA polymerase.

However, one of the key limitations of conventional polymerase chain reaction is that it requires primers complementary to the termini of the target DNA. This method allows PCR when only one internal sequence is known.

Inverse PCR involves a series of digestions and self-ligation before cutting by an endonuclease, resulting in known sequences at either end of the unknown sequence.

  1. The target DNA is lightly digested into fragments of a few kilobases by an endonuclease.
  2. Under low DNA concentration, self-ligation is induced, reforming the phosphate backbone, and giving a circular DNA product.
  3. The target DNA is digested by an endonuclease known to cut once within the known internal sequence. This gives a linear product with known terminal sequences, suitable for polymerase chain reaction.
  4. Polymerase chain reaction is carried out as usual, with primers complementary for sections of the known internal sequence.

Starter pack electric starter. Many

Posted on March 6th, 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

A starter pack (or starter deck) is a sealed package of cards or figurines, designed to serve as the beginning of a collection, in collectible card games and collectible miniature wargames.

Starter packs usually contain a fairly large number of items. In some cases these items are randomly selected, while in others they are pre-determined, or often some combination of the two. In almost all cases, they are designed to provide a set of cards or figurines that is sufficient for a new player to play a game according to the rules, if not necessarily with a high probability of winning. Some starter packs are sets meant for two players, so that a single set can be used instead of each player supplying his or her own.

In general, starters include rulebooks for their games, as well as other accessories required to play (e.g. counters or playmats). The starter packaging for card games typically includes a box of some type, so that the cards can be carried without need for additional card storage.

Starter packs are generally priced to serve as small gifts, with prices comparable to compact discs.

Starter packs are complemented by their smaller, cheaper counterparts, booster packs.

Posted on March 3rd, 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

“Faster/P.C.P.” is the double A-side lead single released by Manic Street Preachers from their third studio album, The Holy Bible.

The title “Faster” can both be interpreted as one who abstains from eating (a personal issue of lyricist Richey James Edwards) or in regards to quick speed. The spoken word introduction (”I hate purity…”) is taken from the film version of George Orwell’s 1984. The lyric “if you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down” is a Chinese proverb, referring to the probable results of differing from common consensus opinion or standards, as happened to 1984 protagonist Winston Smith.

“P.C.P.” is thought to be a protest against politically correct censorship. The title P.C.P. stands for police constable and Political Correctness (P.C.), in combination with conservative party (c.p.). Other meanings may include Plaid Cymru, the Welsh independence political party, especially the lines regarding “bilingual signs on view” and “naive policies”. In addition, P.C.P. is also a drug - Phencyclidine - which causes its users to be delusional and agitated.
